Easter Sunday Takeaways

Whew! What a week! Was Easter just this Sunday?? I had a short revelation on Sunday and Pastor brought out a verse that I’ve never reflected on before.

First, my revelation. Before we can understand the gift of salvation we have to understand that we have a need for a Savior. Now, you might think, “Well duh, Monica” but hold on for the rest. If we don’t understand the severity of our sin, we don’t understand the need. Again, hang on. In a culture that is making everything all right and letting “you do you” how do we come to understand this?

I’ve never thought of it in quite that way before. As the world gets farther and farther away from using the Bible as a guiding moral compass how do we understand right and wrong? How do we know good and evil? How do we see how far from God we are if we don’t even acknowledge He exists?

Then the verse, or actually verses, Hebrews 2:1-4

“We must, therefore, pay even more attention to what we have heard, so that we will not drift away. For if the message spoken through angels was legally binding and every transgression and disobedience received a just punishment, how will we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was first spoken by the Lord and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him. At the same time, God also testified by signs and wonders, various miracles, and distributions of gifts from the Holy Spirit according to His will.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭2:4‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

The Truth has not only been spoken by Jesus, but the disciples witnessed it, the angels proclaimed it and if that wasn’t enough God used signs, wonders, miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit to shout it. And I still have friends who believe this is all a fairytale. But with all this evidence we have no excuse for neglecting or rejecting the gift of salvation. We will not escape punishment if we do. Friend, have you received the gift of God’s salvation? Do you understand your need? If you are not sure, let’s talk.
